I was listening to James Mcdonald online this week-end.

http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/walk-in-the-word/listen/broadcast-archives.html

Willfull Wanderer - come home parts 1,2 and 3

Maybe the reason only some of the MLC'rs come home is because they are like the prodigal son.

If these parts do not happen, then maybe they never come home.

Circumstances must break the will.

Pockets must be empty. not just short now and then, but rock bottom broke.

Friends run out/ leave

Only then can they awaken to reality. As long as the fantasy runs, they have no reason to look at their life.

I believe my STBX will not ever "wake up" She only has very limited contact with our children, Doesn't even call them on their birthdays. She is on to another OM. The kids told me, the pictures she had all around her apt with him in them, have his image cut out.  Re-writing history still.

And maybe the MLC'r that spins up to a cat 4-5 , is the least likely to return or even show remorse. How many in recon, listed their mlc'r as a cat 4 or 5?  When it isn't so much about find themselves, as taking everything they can, and burning everyone / everything else that was left, then they continue on the path with no looking back.

The interesting thing about the prodigal son is that it is less about the punk that grows up and returns home with a humble spirit and more the punk kid that stayed around who used people to get things.  Both kids were lost, but one was outwardly stupid, hit rock bottom and repented.  The other just stayed a punk.  Timothy Keller writes a great boon about it.

I'm beginning to think that MLC is just the submission to sin.  Take a look at Matthew 15:18-20...
Quote
18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man 'unclean'

Then look at James 1:13-15
Quote
13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

But here's my take.  These women have spiritual problems.  And their choices WILL catch up with them.  They destroy families and rob our children of a childhood innocence.  The bigger question is--which ones will have the humility to make amends and take responsibility for their choices?  The prodigal son that returned got that one right; the one that never left never did.

I've told this story before, but my friend's X was a Cat 5, as in a bad Cat 5.  That was 6 years ago.  About two years ago, she changed for the better, and expressed remorse to my friend.  If she can do it, then, IMO, they all can.

True.  They also have personality issues, childhood issues, emotional issues, hormonal issues, money handling issues, relationship issues, unrealistic expectations, a sense of entitlement, etc etc etc.

All rolled up into toxic mess.

The parable of the prodigal son is important in this context, IMO...because eventually the prodigal will return home.

What happens next is clearly up to the LBS (Liberated Spouse)...will he be the dad and slay the fatted calf, or tell the MLCer to get bent?
