The interesting thing about the prodigal son is that it is less about the punk that grows up and returns home with a humble spirit and more the punk kid that stayed around who used people to get things. Both kids were lost, but one was outwardly stupid, hit rock bottom and repented. The other just stayed a punk. Timothy Keller writes a great boon about it.
I'm beginning to think that MLC is just the submission to sin. Take a look at Matthew 15:18-20...
18But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20These are what make a man 'unclean'
Then look at James 1:13-15
13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
But here's my take. These women have spiritual problems. And their choices WILL catch up with them. They destroy families and rob our children of a childhood innocence. The bigger question is--which ones will have the humility to make amends and take responsibility for their choices? The prodigal son that returned got that one right; the one that never left never did.
